Correct visual graduation will allow us to know the sharpness with which you can perceive the objects that you have both close, as at medium distance and of course at a short distance.

Of course, there are different levels of graduation that are based on the quality with which you perceive those objects at different distances. It is not the same to see an object well from afar and badly up close as vice versa. In that case, we are talking about different visual problems.

The unit with which we measure these different levels of graduation is diopters. The more diopters, the greater your difficulty in appreciating objects at different distances. We measure this with different degrees of diopters.

Depending on whether we have a refractive error or another, we must use convergent or divergent lenses.

Visual problems that we detect with the graduation of the vision

Many diseases of the eye can be detected thanks to good vision graduation. In addition, if it is an expert who carries out this work, it could even detect other visual problems that typical graduation you would not get.

The eye problems that are most frequently detected in a visual check-up are the following:

  1. Myopia: A characteristic of people who suffer from myopia is that their eye is longer than normal, this triggers the light that enters through the eye, passes through the lens and the cornea, and converges upon reaching the retina. This makes myopic people not perceive correctly at long distances. If we want to correct myopia we need a divergent lens, which does the opposite effect on the eye with light.
  2. Hyperopia: Contrary to myopia, people with hyperopia have narrower eyes than normal, therefore the rays that enter through the pupil behind the retina create a divergent effect that makes it difficult to see nearby objects. To correct this, hyperopic people need converging lenses.
  3. Astigmatism: In this case what happens is that you have an irregular or oval cornea, which causes the light to fall through several different points, this causes more complex problems since you can see well at certain distances, but badly at others. Normally this problem is also associated with problems of myopia or hyperopia, and each astigmatism needs one or another lens according to each case.
  4. Presbyopia: They have close problems. But unlike hyperopia, the problem is caused by age. As the years go by, the lens of presbyopes becomes more rigid and loses the ability to modify itself to focus sharply. The lenses of people with presbyopia depend on the degree of difficulty of the lens to bulge. Presbyopes correct this disease with monofocal, bifocal, or progressive lenses.
